La campeona olímpica de los 200 metros planos, Shericka Jackson, fue la principal protagonista de los Campeonatos Nacionales de Jamaica, efectuados en el estadio Nacional en Kingston.

En los 100 planos, Jackson se tituló con tiempo de 10.65 segundos, líder mundial de la presente campaña, y fue escoltada por Shashalee Forbes (10.96) y Natasha Robinson (10.98). Mientras que Elaine Thompson fue 5ta con 11.06, quedando fuera del Mundial de Budapest en individual y sólo podría estar como suplente en el relevo 4 x 100 en la cita del orbe, a celebrarse del 19 al 27 de agosto en la capital húngara.

Jackson fue también la ganadora en el doble hectómetro, con un crono de 21.71, (líder mundial de la temporada), seguida por Shelly Ann Fraser con 22.26 y Lanae-Tava Thomas con 22.55. En los 400, Nickisha Pryce venció con 50.21 a Janieve Russell  (50.76) y Candice McLeod (51.01).

Russell se apuntó los 400 con vallas, al llegar a la meta con un tiempo de 53.75, seguida por Andrenette Knigth (55.78) y Rusheell Clayton (53.81). Entre tanto, en los 100 con vallas, el podio quedó de la siguiente manera: Megan Tapper con 12.64, Ackera Nugent con 12.67 y Danielle Williams con 12.82. Mientras que en el salto triple, Shanieka Ricketts fue la ganadora con un brinco de 14.79, pero con viento a favor (2.6 en la medición).

En los 400 metros con vallas de hombres, Roshawn Clark se apuntó la prueba con 47.85 segundos, récord mundial juvenil, escoltado por Jaheel Hyde (48.45) y Assinie Wilson (48.50).

En los 100 planos, Rohan Watson se impuso con 9.91, seguido por Ryien Forde (9.96) y Oblique Seville (10.00); en el doble hectómetro, la primera casilla fue para Andrew Hudson con 20.11, acompañado en el podio por Rasheed Dwyer (20.26) y Tyquendo Tracey (20.48). En la vuelta al óvalo (400 planos) destacaron Sean Bailey con 44.48, Antonio Watson con 44.54 y Jevaungh Powell con 45.18.

En otros resultados, Rasheed  Broadbell se impuso en los 110 con vallas con crono de 12.94 segundos.  En el lanzamiento de disco sobresalieron Traves Smikle con 66.12 metros, Roje Stona (65.92) y Fedrick Dacres (65.79); en la bala,  Rajindra Campbell con 21.04; en el salto triple, el poseedor del récord mundial, Jaydon Hibbert con 17.68 y el salto largo,  Waynne Pinnock (8.32), Tajay Gayle (8.27) y Corey McLeod con (8.20).// Ricardo Gómez Chirinos

Shericka Jackson shines at Jamaica Nationals

Olympic 200m champion Shericka Jackson was the main protagonist of the Jamaican National Championships, held at the National Stadium in Kingston.

In the 100 meters, Jackson won the title with a time of 10.65 seconds, world leader of the current campaign, and was escorted by Shashalee Forbes (10.96) and Natasha Robinson (10.98). While Elaine Thompson was 5th with 11.06, being left out of the World Championship in Budapest in individual and could only be an alternate in the 4 x 100 relay in the world event, to be held from August 19 to 27 in the Hungarian capital.

Jackson was also the winner in the double hectometer, with a time of 21.71 (world leader of the season), followed by Shelly Ann Fraser with 22.26 and Lanae-Tava Thomas with 22.55. In the 400, Nickisha Pryce won with 50.21 over Janieve Russell (50.76) and Candice McLeod (51.01).

Russell won the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.75, followed by Andrenette Knigth (55.78) and Rusheell Clayton (53.81). Meanwhile, in the 100 hurdles, the podium was as follows: Megan Tapper with 12.64, Ackera Nugent with 12.67 and Danielle Williams with 12.82. While in the triple jump, Shanieka Ricketts was the winner with a jump of 14.79, but with the wind at her back (2.6 in the measurement).

In the men’s 400m hurdles, Roshawn Clark won with 47.85 seconds, a world junior record, escorted by Jaheel Hyde (48.45) and Assinie Wilson (48.50).

In the 100 flat, Rohan Watson won with 9.91, followed by Ryien Forde (9.96) and Oblique Seville (10.00); in the double hectometer, the first place went to Andrew Hudson with 20.11, accompanied on the podium by Rasheed Dwyer (20.26) and Tyquendo Tracey (20.48). In the oval lap (400 flat), Sean Bailey (44.48), Antonio Watson (44.54) and Jevaungh Powell (45.18) stood out.

In other results, Rasheed Broadbell won the 110 hurdles with a time of 12.94 seconds.  In the discus throw, Traves Smikle with 66.12 meters, Roje Stona (65.92) and Fedrick Dacres (65.79) were outstanding; in the shot put, Rajindra Campbell with 21.04; in the triple jump, world record holder Jaydon Hibbert with 17.68 and in the long jump, Waynne Pinnock (8.32), Tajay Gayle (8.27) and Corey McLeod with (8.20).// Ricardo Gómez Chirinos
