La corredora venezolana Joselyn Brea debutó este domingo 16 de julio en la Liga de Diamante en el Memorial Kamila Skolimowska, celebrado en el Silesia Stadium de Polonia, donde finalizó en un destacado décimo lugar en la prueba de 3 mil metros planos, tomando en consideración que los ocho primeros lugares se ubicaron semifondistas de África.
Brea con un tiempo de 8.43.26 minutos, mejorando el 9.23.72 que tenía, estableció récord de su país y suramericano, rompiendo la marca de 8.53.89 que registró la argentina Florencia Borelli en Memphis, Estados Unidos, el 2022.
El podio de la prueba la ocuparon la etíope Hailu Freweyni con 8.26.61 minutos, la keniana Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (8.27.80) y Lemiem Hailu también de Etiopia (8.29.43), mientras que la estadounidense Elly Henes finalizó en la novena casilla con 8.42.81.
La oriunda del estado Carabobo, quien viene de hacer historia con tres medallas de oro en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe San Salvador 2023 manifestó a la prensa “esta es mi primera Liga Diamante. Estoy tan feliz de estar aquí. El público es hermoso y me ayudó mucho. Nunca he visto y nunca he corrido delante de tanta gente. Estoy muy emocionado de estar aquí. Es genial lograr este PB y AR y espero mejorar esta vez”.
Agregó Brea, “me quedaré en Europa hasta el Campeonato Mundial en Budapest, en agosto, donde competiré en los 5k. Entreno en la altura de Font Romeu en Francia. También correré en Mónaco y celebraré este récord después”.
Entre los sobresalientes resultados de la semifondista y fondista venezolana en la actual temporada aparecen: en la pista de Stanford, la marca nacional de 1.500 metros con 4:07.27 (el 22 de abril); el dos veces récord sudamericano de los 5.000 metros, hasta colocarlo en 14:47.76 el 6 de mayo en Walnut, siendo así la primera corredora del área en bajar los 15 minutos.

Joselyn Brea debuts with South American record in 3 thousand meters in the Diamond League
Venezuelan runner Joselyn Brea made her debut this Sunday, July 16, in the Diamond League at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, held at the Silesia Stadium in Poland, where she finished in an outstanding tenth place in the 3 thousand meters flat race, taking into consideration that the first eight places were taken by semi-distance runners from Africa.
Brea with a time of 8.43.26 minutes, improving the 9.23.72 she had, established a record of her country and South America, breaking the mark of 8.53.89 registered by the Argentine Florencia Borelli in Memphis, United States, in 2022.
The podium was occupied by the Ethiopian Hailu Freweyni with 8.26.61 minutes, the Kenyan Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (8.27.80) and Lemiem Hailu also from Ethiopia (8.29.43), while the American Elly Henes finished in the ninth place with 8.42.81.
